Award-winning filmmaker Liz Whitmere leverages extensive on-camera experience into directing grounded, sometimes dark, comedy and reality-bending psychological thrillers. An “actor's director", Liz is agile and efficient with a focus on smooth process and clear communication with all departments; her experience producing multiple series for streaming platforms like CBC Gem means she’s worn almost every hat.
She is a strong advocate for including historically excluded perspectives and protagonists. Her short animated film Superhero Inc won Best Writing awarded by Netflix at the Easterseals Disability Film Challenge. Her most recent film, COLD, was nominated for a DGC Award and is eligible for several Canadian Screen Awards nominations.
In 2024, Liz produced and story edited documentary segments for TVO’s The Agenda with Steve Paikin, a long-running current affairs digest program.
Liz is currently in post-production on a new short film, in development on two features, and attached to direct a third - more news to come.
