A veteran actor, Liz was both an improviser and stand-up comedian before moving behind the camera. She developed Hit On Me with Marvin Kaye, which won the Just For Laughs pitch competition in 2017. She produced her first short, This Is Not What You Had Planned, associate-produced the CSA-winning The Neddeaus of Duqesne Island and co-EP’d Late Night in the Studio (both for CBC Gem). Whitmere’s film UP TO HERE is a reality-bending exploration of one woman’s search for mental solitude. Since then, Liz has directed several short films as well as the 2022 virtual edition of the CAFTCAD Awards. Liz was Senior Producer on Season 1, and directed episodes 5 & 6, of ZARQA (CBC Gem), created by Zarqa Nawaz (Little Mosque on the Prairie) and returned to direct two episodes on Season 2 in 2023. Her most recent film COLD centres on a woman who died last week… but didn’t notice. She is a WIDC Story & Leadership Program alum.
